Our client operates a network of self-service vending kiosks, often located beside or inside larger retail stores. While the product range in these kiosks is relatively stable compared to a dynamic supermarket aisle, prices and promotional campaigns occasionally need updating. Previously, staff had to open the glass doors of each vending machine to manually replace paper labels\u2014a process that was time-consuming, prone to errors, and highly inefficient. The client wanted to transition to a digital labeling system but sought to avoid the high upfront costs and installation complexity of traditional electronic shelf label solutions, which typically require centralized in-store wireless networks and dedicated gateways. They needed a straightforward, economical, and easy-to-manage solution suitable for smaller-scale deployments.<\/p>\n

\nThe key advantage of Bluetooth ESLs<\/a> is the elimination of wireless gateways (base stations). For our client, this meant significant savings\u2014not only on the hardware cost of the gateways themselves but also on the expenses associated with professional installation and network configuration. The system operates independently of store IT networks and does not require a dedicated computer, simplifying both setup and ongoing management.<\/p>\n
\nWe provided an intuitive mobile application that puts control directly in the hands of on-site staff. A store employee can use their smartphone to update labels on nearby vending machines in moments. With typically fewer than 50 labels per kiosk, management is highly flexible: staff can update labels individually for a single product or use the app\u2019s batch update and template switching features to refresh prices or promotional messages across an entire vending machine in just minutes. The 2.9-inch three-color (black, white, red) E-Ink screens ensure excellent readability and are ideal for displaying pricing, product names.<\/p>\n
\nTo ensure secure and tidy placement of the ESLs on the client\u2019s existing vending shelves, we supplied custom-designed plastic mounting rails. These rails allow the labels to be snapped neatly into place without adhesives or complex retrofitting, giving the kiosks a clean, integrated appearance.<\/p>\n
